{horsey style file: equestrian chic}

Equestrian chic has been all-the-rage since earlier this year, and lately you can't flip through a magazine without catching glimpse of a horsey or two. Even in my IDSwest report back in October I pointed out the strong equine presence! But I only yesterday came to the realization of how quickly this trend is growing: while shopping at HomeSense {equivalent to HomeGoods in the States} I noticed every second table-top trinket was a ceramic or bronzed horse, and I literally saw two women fight over an oversized painting of a horse on canvas. Literally. That is when I realized ... this trend is serious people!!

Now don't be mistaken, this trend is nothing new! Chanel for example, was known for borrowing her boyfriend's riding attire to influence her own designs and made riding boots, breeches, and short riding jackets that remain classic to this day.

Style at Home has a fabulous trendspotting spread in January's issue, and of course equestrian chic was on the list! I think their description in a caption summed up this style perfectly: 'Think Jackie O meets Hermes meets the English countryside.' Of course, true to its horseman's heritage, Hermes continues to impress with all-things equine. The house has its first haute bijouterie collection focusing on the horse's hoof by Pierre Hardy. And you'll even notice through several images below that Hermes orange makes a strong presence in this decor trend.

Fabulous post Nancy- loved all the inspiration shots (especially the picture with the lined up boots:) and your 'all things equestrian' guide is amazing. I ADORE the Florance Broadhurst stampeded paper- one of my all time favourites. I also think I need horsey bookends and of course, would die for one of those glorious Hermes blankets! xo

Can't believe two people fighting over a print, but hey, we live in horse country! Love this post, you are so good at compiling amazing images. My girls would LOVE equine filled rooms. I am looking for a white ceramic horse bookends for my middle one's room!

Hope your week is off to a wonderful start,

I really love this post, you've really shown how the equestrian look can be glamourous or preppy, traditional or modern.

I can't get over the photo with all the boots lined up in a row. Really grabs me for some reason!

I just stumbled across your blog for the first time and thought I would say hello! I looked through a few of your posts and love your style. Your work is beautifully organized and professional.

I'm a blogger as well, about the world of art, but my history is in interior design and fashion. I love to hear what people are saying! Hope we get to see more of each other in the future.

My favorite is the over sized horse photos. I started seeing them here and there last year and I loved where it was going! I wish i could find one at homegoods here! I would definitely go to the mattresses for it!

Kelly sent me this url and I'm so glad she did. I'm a horse lover from the time I was a little girl. Now that I don't have horses anymore, I still photograph them; in fact, in 2011 they will be my focus. So pleased to have been sent to your lovely place on the 'net!
