{rue magazine coming soon!}

Don’t forget the new online décor magazine, Rue is set to debut mid-September! Four lovely bloggers {Crystal from Plush Palate, Anne from The City Sage, Alaina from Live Creating Yourself, and Caitlin from Sacramento Street} have joined forces to give us what will surely be a major dose of eye candy and all-around inspiration.

I especially love how these ladies have been updating their readers about their travels, photoshoots, etc. through their blogs and through facebook, it really makes us feel like we’re involved in the process. You can follow along on Facebook and get on their mailing list here to stay in-the-know!

{louboutin’s houseboat in egypt}

You know him for his amazing shoes, but did you know Christian Louboutin has a houseboat in Egypt? Since I am probably floating down the Nile river in a felucca somewhere right now, I thought it would be appropriate to share these photos with you. I love the furnishings and the touch of Egyptian culture he chose to add. I also love that Louboutin’s famous shoes were thrown ‘casually’ here and there for this photo shoot {totally unintentional of course}.

Looks like a killer view, I think I could unwind here:

The red of this traditional hat {called a fez or tarboosh} is the same red that's on the soles of Louboutin's shoes!

{karla's dreamy space: the kerrisdale design inc. office}

Today I am excited to have one of my favorite bloggers and friend guest blogging for me! Please welcome Karla of Kerrisdale Design; uber talented designer, blogger, and mommy extraordinaire! Check out her lovely portfolio here, {trust me, you’ll thank me later!}  Karla's recent work is featured in this month's House & Home Condos {a stunning spread, I might add}, so be sure to pick up a copy!

Hello All! My friend Nancy is off globetrotting, and I've been left to hold the Marcus Design fort. A tough job, but somebody's gotta do it! I'm thrilled to be able to lend a hand over at Marcus Design while Nancy is taking a {much deserved} break. I love visiting Nancy's blog because she is a RESEARCHER! Yup, her scientific background can't help but peek through, and she always writes fabulous posts about the history of certain design details, styles, or patterns. Love it.

Working Girl

Nancy shared her "dream office" awhile back with us readers, so today I thought I'd take a turn and show you what's happening over at the Kerrisdale Design Inc office. Now, you'd think an interior designer would/should have the BEST office, right? WRONG. I believe there is a proverb about the Shoemaker's children going shoeless? Very apt.

My office has been bare & ugly for a whole year since we've moved in. Honestly, I'm embarrassed to even show the before picture! That, my friends, will soon be a thing of the past.

The Floorplan

The Pretty

When coming up with a scheme for the office, I of course had fun hunting for inspiration images of spaces that I'd LOVE to work in. Here are a few that had the mood & feel I wanted ~

The Scheme

And here is the moodboard I've been working from...
...and I'm excited to report that almost everything has been ordered! Now, the worst part of the design process has to take place - waiting for the pretty stuff to arrive. Patience, patience! As I tell my clients, it'll be worth the wait :). Stop by my blog soon for some fabulous "afters"....can't wait to show you the final result!

Thanks Nancy for having me, hope you're having a fabulous time in Egypt!

{designer profile: coco chanel}

Happy Birthday to Mme Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel! In honor of the birthday of one of the greatest fashion icons in history I thought I would dedicate a post to all things Chanel {including her personal homes, since this is a décor blog of course!}.

Chanel was a pioneering French fashion designer whose modernist style, menswear-inspired fashions, and pursuit perfection made her such an influential figure in 20th-century fashion.

I am quite smitten with Chanel products. My personal signature scent is Mademoiselle Chanel, if I could only have 1 bottle of perfume this would be it!

One of the most interesting historical novels I have read is 'The Collection,' by Gioia Diliberto, which looks at the behind the scenes life in the haute couture workrooms of the imperious Coco Chanel herself. And a MUST watch: Coco Avant Chanel.

Lets take a look at three of her personal interiors: the Hotel Ritz suite she lived in, the maison de couture at 31 rue Cambon {now the flagship shop}, and the apartment she owned above her couture house.

The suite at the Hotel Ritz:

Coco Chanel resided in a suite at the Hotel Ritz Paris for over 30 years. It is now one of the most expensive suites to rent on the market {$4,000 and $5,000 USD per night}.

The foyer is exquisite, just look at those floors!

You even get Chanel products in the bathroom!

The Couture House on 31 rue Cambon:

Coco Chanel had a mirrored staircase installed that spirals to the top of the building. The angled mirrors were intentionally placed so that when they were preparing for shows, she could view what was happening on almost every floor from the top, and she was able to see the reaction of the audience!

The apartment on 31 rue Cambon:

Coco owned an apartment atop the flagship Chanel location, but she never resided here. She actually used this apartment for entertaining and for interviews etc. How fab!

How it looked then:

And now:

 I love the abundance of chinoiserie-inspired screens:
I don't think any one can deny that this woman had serious style through and through. Happy Birthday Coco!

{off to an arabian paradise}

I’m off to Egypt tonight! I’m beyond excited, in a short time I’ll be viewing the pyramids, snorkeling in the Red Sea, haggling at the Bazaars, and sipping tea in a little café along the beach. I will hopefully have some amazing photos for you when I get back. Until then I have prepared several posts ahead of time for you (including a fun giveaway … stay tuned!), and I’m honored to have a couple of amazing guest bloggers slated as well so be sure to pop by!

To all my blogger buddies, I’ll unfortunately be missing your lovely posts while I am away, but I promise to catch up when I get home. I leave you with a few fun images, include a couple of Egyptian-inspired interiors {after all, this is an interior decor blog!} Have a wonderful rest of your week my friends!
