{i'd love to know: your mag subscriptions}

I was chatting with my friend Barbara of Hodge:Podge blog the other day and she mentioned her recent subscription to one of my favorite magazines, Elle Decor. It got me thinking about my own subscriptions, I currently subscribe to Elle Decor, House Beautiful, and of course our fabulous home-grown Canadian mags {I always feel so proud!}, House & Home and Style at Home. That's a lot of mags but I adore them all and couldn't live without their inspiration! It makes me so happy to come home to a shiny new mag to flip through and enjoy.

I feel so spoiled when it comes to all the fabulous online mags that have recently hit the scene. If we wanted to, we could literally take in decor inspiration 24 hours a day!! But I still love to have a magazine in my hands sometimes, do you feel the same? So, my question to all of you is ... which {if any} shelter magazines do you subscribe to?

Of course, it's still a must for print magazines to have an online presence, and many are offering an online version that is at a lower rate than the physical copy. Have you opted out of the print copy and decided to simply purchase the online copy alone? Or do you still like to have the hard copy on hand for your reference? Do you think the day will come when print mags move to a digital-only delivery? I'm personally hoping not, because there's something magical about holding a printed magazine in your hands, and I don't think there's any kind of replacement for that.

My thoughts thus far are that both print magazines and online magazines are not going ANY WHERE! There is a bit if a niche for both in my opinion. I'd love to hear any thoughts you have on this topic ...

I agree i love both online & print. Although lately I find I get to read online faster than my print ones. H&H and Style at Home are my staples. ALthough I loved Elle and my subscription ran out...may need to get it again!

Nancy: I can't even get thru the on-line magazines. I always have to enlarge and then go back and I just do not like them. Also maybe b/c I am at a computer ALL day anyway. I love perusing thru a real magazine, tearing out pages etc. I get House Beautiful. My favorite is Living Etc from the UK. I luv style at home also and use to have a subscription but too expensive with shipping now! I miss HG and Domino and all of them!

I have found a lot of my inspiration through blogs :) But I do subscribe to Elle Decor & Runners World.

I don't know why by I only subscribe to Elle Decor- recently won one to Vogue so I get that too- very silly because I buy Style at Home every month and often get H&H too- need to bite the bullet and sign up for both of those. I love all of it and feel there's a place for print, online mags and blogs- all have something special to offer.

While all of them are great. I am old fashion and tend to hold close to my touch and feel magazines.

There is a niche for online magazine since the onslaught on mobile reading devices i.e. the iPad and Kindle.

nancy, I have so many subscriptions it is kind of embarrassing. My all time favs are House Beautiful, Veranda and Traditional home. I use to love Southern Accents but they are no longer in print. It was just this weekend I sat down with a stack of magazines and perused the pages. as much as I love blogs and E-zines, there is nothing that feels quite like a good shelter magazine and a cup of tea in my comfy chair!! xo Kathysue

Hi, Nancy,
Love your blog!
I subscribe to a bunch and love them all. Definitely prefer a hard copy to digital. To me, not even comparable experiences.
I get Veranda (my favorite), House Beautiful, Canadian House and Home, Martha Stewart Living, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, Better Homes and Gardens (don't really like this-letting my subscription lapse), Country Living, More and Traditional Home. People Mag is also a guilty pleasure. The one I miss the most--Southern Accents. I used to subscribe to British Home and Garden which is also great but very expensive.

I prefer, an actual mag to online. More tactile I suppose. Although, the advent of blogs has substantially curtailed my magazine reading. I sub to House Beautiful, Living Etc, H&H, S@H, And Real Simple.

I still love the print magazines. I love to tag them, cut out, and file them away to look through over and over again. I find the online are fantastic but with so much they tend to get lost in the techno clutter.

My list: Style at Home, House and Home, Elle Decor, House Beautiful! I also get Chatelaine {it has some home decor} and sometimes buy Dwell, Fresh Home, Real Simple, and Veranda! But I agree with Tina, with all the fab blogs, it is an inspirational overload!

I subscribe to ELLE Decor & House Beautiful, and I have online subscriptions through Zinio to Livingetc, Style At Home, and East Coast Living. I'm trying to get used to online magazines, but I agree with you that there's just something about holding a paper magazine that's so appealing. Mind you, online mags have the advantage of being much easier to upload pics from :-)

I get Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, House and Home, Style at Home and Veranda. But I'm going to have to stop a few of them as I can't keep up, especially with all the great on line ones as well.
I like the on line ones, for the ease of using the photos for my blog and inspiration files but I still like to be able to grab a magazine and bring it to the cottage with me.

I subscribe to House & Home, Style at Home, and Martha Stewart Living - all in print. And I prefer print! I love online stuff, like Lonny, that's free... but I find it far more relaxing to have the computer turned off and leaf through a tangible magazine.

I do like the online mags but I find I only look at the pictures and never read the text! (the zoom-in/zoom-out is so annoying) And sometimes you just need to step away from the screen, you know? Print mags are still my favourite, with Style At Home, Canadian House & Home, and Elle Decor arriving at my door monthly. I always end up buying a few more each month...it depends on what catches my eye on the newsstand...

I subscribe to 15 magazines a month!! I know... It is insane {and that does not include the online ones I have recently found!!} I somehow find time to read them all... and I don't think I could live without one of them!

I love both options, and I thank God for all the lovely online mags he has blessed us with! Haha. The only subscription I have is to Architectural Digest, my favorite Decó Mag. I only buy other mags if their contents are interesting. I prefer to check them online. Huge Hug! XoXo

I don't subscribe to any magazines, but out of all of them, Style at Home would be on top of my list (although I would probably have to move to Canada ;) I don't know how you have time to read through all those magazines with all the blogging and work you do?! You never cease to impress me!

I love all the online mags but to me there's nothing as satisfying as opening up a freshly minted glossy mag for the first time and savouring each crisp, colourful page. I spend about two hours on average reading my real magazines and about 10 minutes reading the online version. I have/do subscribe to House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Traditional Home, Martha Stewart Living & Weddings, Veranda, Architectural Digest, Country Living, Coastal Living and a bunch of Aussie ones as well. I'm soon going to have to give up my addiction, as it seems pointless when they are all becoming available online and there are some great e-mags out there as well.

In prep for an eventual iPad purchase, I am allowing my print magazine subscriptions to expire. Reading them online more. Been fighting paper clutter for far too many decades now. Time to move forward. I love ELLE DECOR, MARTHA, AD and the recently shuttered MET HOME but my all-time fav was HOUSE & GARDEN and I still haven't quite recovered from their demise. About three years ago now, huh? Nothing comes close to replacing it in my eyes.
