{sofas back-to-back}

I'm always looking for interesting placement of furnishings in a room. Have you come across arrangements where sofas and/or chairs are facing back to back? I find this a very different set up, but with a room the right size, it could really work!

It also creates different conversation zones which is really neat.

If given the right room/project, would you try out this furniture placement?

Hi Nancy,
This furniture layout can look amazing in a large space, especially if the sofas are identical. I think this layout looks best when the profile of the sofas are positioned to face the entrance of the room. It creates an intriguing sight line.
You've included some great examples!

While these are such lovely examples, I have to confess, I would never have the guts to pull this look off in my own home...not sure why, just know I couldn't handle it!:)

There was a lottery home in White Rock designed by Kelly Deck... she did this in the great room and - even though I thought the room was just a bit too small for this kind of furniture placement - I found the look fantastic! There was also a contrived balance to the room that was surprisingly pleasing. Loved how it created specific zones for activity/conversation.

Hello Nancy,

Happy Monday! As for this post, I really like the idea of mixing things up a little and trying something new—it completely works with a great scale and the right pieces to work with... lovely inspiration...

I love the look, especially with identical sofa's, and when used to create two different spaces within one. If i had the space, I would absolutely do it.

I'm so intrigued by this look, but the right sized space is a necessity. My husband would keel over if I needed to procure two identical sofas.

I think it would depend on the scale of the room, and if one direction is for tv viewing and the other to face a gorgeous view. Otherwise, I don't think I could get my guy to go along with it, and buy twice the amount of furniture! :)

I'm not keen on the double-sofa setup. It makes me think of a waiting room, and I find looking at the rooms with the double-sofa configurations kind of jarring. In a large space, I would prefer multiple seating areas with smaller seating. That being said, the sofas and elements in the rooms you posted are beautiful :-)
