{sarah's house 4: the living room}

Did you fellow Canadians catch the first two episodes of Sarah's House last Tuesday? I am excited about this new series, it's already looking lovely! Sarah purchased a lot in a 'builder-basic' suburban neighbourhood so that she could be involved in tweaking the developer's plans from the very start and show us how to take 'cookie-cutter to cupcake!' Spoiler alert: if you are in the US and don't want to see pics of Sarah's House before the episodes air {rumored to be April} don't scroll down!!

The best part? There will be not one, but TWO episodes every week! This week was the 'Find and Buy' and 'Living Room' installments, next up the entry way and kitchen. DELISH! Here's a look at the living room, which was expanded compared to the original plans, the only negative is the powder room was abolished because of this {we'll see how she makes up for that one}. The palette was soft and neutral with hits of jewel-like lavender and purple. I love that idea, as you can later change the entire room by accessory-swaping.

What do you think of the space? I'm loving so many things: the antique pair of laterns, the addition of an old fireplace frame to mix old with new, the oversized herringbone rug, the mixing of different metals, and the arrangement of two sitting areas {a signature Sarah move}! I don't know about you, but my PVR is already set for tomorrow's episodes :)

PS. I wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your AMAZING support through comments and emails, you have NO idea how much it means to me. All of your stories, prayers, and thoughts just warmed my heart. How amazing is it that people all over the globe can identify with how you feel, share similar experiences, and show love and support all through the world-wide-web? People that I may never get the chance to meet face to face have touched my life in so many ways. This crazy-wonderful blogosphere never ceases to amaze me and I am so thankful to each and every one of you. GIANT virtual hugs xo

Thanks for the images! I am really looking forward to seeing the kitchen as I love how she used the dining area as part of the living!

I've been a follower of Sarah's for years. I'm loving this new series. I live in a suburban new build, and I'm excited to see what Sarah and Tommy do to customize the house. The living room is beautiful. It was so smart to change the floor plan and expand the space.
I still have you in my prayers, Nancy...

I can't say I truly like that space. A bit too feminine for my liking. But I love how she takes the basic builder house and makes it look custom. BUT I have yet to watch the episodes. I can't believe their scheduling - 5 PM {try watching that while making dinner and wrangling 3 children} and then midnight??? What? I am glad they appear to have online episodes!

Hope your spirits are up! Thinking of you sweets.

Nancy, I'm so sorry about the loss of your dog. I'm sure he was a huge part of your family and will leave a whole in your life. Take comfort in the wonderful life you gave him and the joy he added to yours. Sorry I'm so late to offer my condolences.

I've never seen Sarah's show but I love that I can catch all the pretty stuff from you!

Well I am a HUGE SR fan and have no problem seeing shows twice ot 3 times so I LOVE these pics! We just got done with Sarah 101. This is a fairly formal living room and gorgeous. HOwever, I have never liked those big, tall wooden chairs across from the sofa. I think this is the first time ever I have said I didn't like something!I LOVE her furniture with all the straight narrow legs. It all looks so light!

PS: will be thinking of you and loss of pup for long time to come. XXOOO

Looks like a pretty good show! I can’t believe this house is brand spankers! There isn’t enough classic architecture going up these days.

I was wondering if I should continue reading or not, but then thought maybe I should check the TV schedule to make sure I'm not missing it. Now I can't wait. Do you guys get Dear Genevieve right now? I've been loving this season.

All I can say is it may be time for Sarah to go back to Design basics. This whole season has been an eclectic mish mash of design errors with rooms full of stuff that doesn't work together. (C'mon Tommy--stop being such a Yes Man, and talk some sense into Sarah!!) I'm all for colour and pattern, but wisdom in design and art is knowing when to use some restraint, and not going over-the-top crazy with cluttery furniture with zero symmetry in line and form. (ie--all the furniture in the Living room-check out all the different legs in the 3rd living room photo--gives me a headache.) And the blue dining room??? Well, everyone has already said it. I love Sarah, but this house is her worst work, and I've been watching her since the get go. Sorry!
