{i'd love to know: your mag subscriptions}

I was chatting with my friend Barbara of Hodge:Podge blog the other day and she mentioned her recent subscription to one of my favorite magazines, Elle Decor. It got me thinking about my own subscriptions, I currently subscribe to Elle Decor, House Beautiful, and of course our fabulous home-grown Canadian mags {I always feel so proud!}, House & Home and Style at Home. That's a lot of mags but I adore them all and couldn't live without their inspiration! It makes me so happy to come home to a shiny new mag to flip through and enjoy.

I feel so spoiled when it comes to all the fabulous online mags that have recently hit the scene. If we wanted to, we could literally take in decor inspiration 24 hours a day!! But I still love to have a magazine in my hands sometimes, do you feel the same? So, my question to all of you is ... which {if any} shelter magazines do you subscribe to?

Of course, it's still a must for print magazines to have an online presence, and many are offering an online version that is at a lower rate than the physical copy. Have you opted out of the print copy and decided to simply purchase the online copy alone? Or do you still like to have the hard copy on hand for your reference? Do you think the day will come when print mags move to a digital-only delivery? I'm personally hoping not, because there's something magical about holding a printed magazine in your hands, and I don't think there's any kind of replacement for that.

My thoughts thus far are that both print magazines and online magazines are not going ANY WHERE! There is a bit if a niche for both in my opinion. I'd love to hear any thoughts you have on this topic ...

{lusting: gilded mirrors & more}

Today I am dreaming of glittering gold gilded mirrors ... ornate or simple, they can add flair to any modern or traditional space. I dug up my favorite examples from my inspiration files to share with you:

Simply divine! A gilded mirror is definitely on my personal wish list. I'll be keeping my eyes open every time I go antiquing! And on that note, I'm lusting over a few other gilded items, such as these glorious bowls:

But I am thinking of trying my hand at a little paper mache/gold leaf DIY version:

And speaking of gilded DIYs, have you come across this fab IKEA DIY from Haute Khuuture? Julie gilded the inside of the drum lampshade and it turned out delish:

It seems as though I've got gilding on the brain ;)

{house tour: splendid willow}

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you have had a chance to flip through the latest issue of Rue that hit virtual news stands early this week, it is filled with lovely spring inspiration. For me, the most exciting feature was a tour through the home of my dear friend Monika of Splendid Willow. What a treat! So just in case you missed it, here is the home of one of the most talented designers/bloggers I know. And the best part is she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Be sure to check out her blog, and her gorgeous online shop Splendid Willow Avenue. Oh, and in case you missed it, you can check out Monika's guest post here, where she shared her dream home must have with us.

Just beautiful! I adore her Scandanavian-chic sensibility. And I am in love with those lion head pulls in the last shot :) A very happy weekend to each of you, and see you on Monday!

{the prettiest patio furniture}

As the days quickly pass and June swiftly approaches, I find myself day dreaming about spending more time outdoors. Unfortunately it's nothing but rain here in Vancouver, but I've got a good feeling June with bring with it the lovely long summer evenings I am craving.

How fabulous would it be to pull up a lovely white tufted & skirted ottoman like the one below to that charming outdoor stone fireplace?

If your reading this carefully, by now you are thinking ... Did she just say white. tufted. skirted. outside??? Is she crazy?

No, you read correctly! This is the PERFECT piece of outdoor furniture: a cast stone tufted ottoman that was designed to be outside, and the tufting and skirting details are amazingly life-like! {Coleen & Company, $575}.

Quite literally the most fantastic piece of outdoor furniture I've ever seen ... I want one! Doesn't it get you dreaming of summer?

{hermes for the home...}

Many people don't know that the House of Hermès was born in 1837 when Thierry Hermès opened a saddle shop in Paris that specialized in hand–stitched horse harnesses. It was a business built on the strength of a stitch that can only be done by hand, the saddle stitch. In 1900, the company offered the haut à courroies bag designed especially so that riders could carry their saddles with them, and of course we all know how their line of bags developed from there! Hermès was even the first to introduce the the zipper to France!

Hermes then {InStyle} and now {this is glamorous}

There is no doubt you have seen the influence of this design powerhouse on interior decor. The blankets, the pillows, even simply the signature orange color has been designated 'Hermès orange.' Let's take a peek at some of the most desirable Hermès objects for the home ...

The scarf makes the perfect throw pillow:

Oh, and of course ... if you happen to buy something, please don't throw out the packaging! The box itself is a coveted item after all ...

I'd even save the bag and frame it like this:

Such lovely decor inspiration! I'd personally take any of the items above.
