{don't feel guilty about keeping those mags!}

I'd like to think I'm the opposite of a pack-rat. I LOVE throwing things out ... purging feels so good and I'm the kind of person that likes only a few choice items to surround me. Having said that, I often feel bad about keeping piles and piles of magazines! I can't part with them, I literally do refer back to them from time to time and I just love having complete collections of them. Sometimes I feel guilty about how much space they take up. But lately, I've seen the fabulous collections of others displayed in ways that make me swoon:

Here's the collection of the fabulous Meredith Heron - Meredith I am seriously jealous! Especially of those coveted Domino's I see piled there!! You'll have to follow along with her office makeover to see how everything ends up getting displayed ...

Pay close attention to the little side table in this image from House of Hackney that I recently posted:

Did you spot it? Fabulous!

I loved seeing the images Heather Clawson of Habitually Chic took of Mark D. Sikes' amazing home in LA. He's got quite the Vogue collection himself, I adore how it's displayed:

Well, I've managed to convince myself, DON'T feel guilty about keeping those coveted magazines! Have I convinced you too? Do you keep your favorite mags, toss them, or rip out your favorite pages? Do tell!

I feel like this was directed right at me. I must have HUNDREDS of mags I cannot part with and like you I do refer back to them and enjoy them like I have never seen them before!! No way am I parting with them, maybe dedicating an entire bookcase like above to them? Looks good to me!

I have gone back and forth on this so many times over the years. Once, I decided to tear out only the pages I wanted to keep and store them in a binder, organized by rooms. That took a LONG time and I just never kept up with it (still have it though!). Then, I tried giving away those copies I didn't love, but now I just have piles again....all over the house, really! I just can't part with them. 'Cause if I leave them long enough, I can go back and read one and it's like reading a whole new mag! Or, I'm in a different frame of mind about what inspires me so re-reading a certain mag will make me look at it in an entirely different way. I think what I'm trying to say is...I can't throw mine away either!!

Nancy - so in the same boat as you are. I love to purge as well, I probably do it 2-3 times a year, but I cannot part with my magazines! What is that??? Love the last pic--may inspire me to do that in my office! Great post--very original!

I've been a magazine hoarder all my life. And seeing all of those magnificent piles makes me feel sick. I had to part with almost all of them when we moved and put most things into storage while we're living in Dubai. My guy insisted that we were not storing magazines. It was painful!

I keep most of my magazines to flip through for inspiration at the start of new projects. I keep all mine organized in magazine holders but I love these great ideas....especially the last one!

Oh my goodness, I am so jealous she kept her Domino mags! If only they were still around producing new issues! I am exactly like you. Not a pack rat in the least. But don't make me give up my piles of Harpers Bazaar and Elle Decor!!

I am a magazine hoarder. I have a few shelves dedicated to old magazines, and a large basket with piles and recent issues sit on my family room ottoman!

But I do sort through them now and again and purge! I could kick myself for getting rid of my Domino magazines though - kick, kick!

Wouldn't it be fabulous to hang out in Meredith's office and just read through all of those piles?

Whew! Now I feel better! I hoard design magazines! I have everyone of the Domino mags! Some days I feel like I am swimming in magazines. I need to be more creative! I keep them stacked under my coffee tables.

let's just say that with a move 2 months ago, the office is the only room still in boxes. and there are a LOT of boxes! there are so many that i just can't part with. tearsheets just aren't the same to me. there's something so fun about going back through and discovering new inspiration every time....especially as my taste evolves. so many images i would have tossed even a few years ago that i covet now!

I wish my stacks looked this good! At least they're on a shelf in a closet, but not this organized!

I'm the same way Nancy! I too am not pack rat but when it comes to my collection of magazines I just can't part with them. I have them displayed on a bookshelf and seeing them all stacked up makes me happy!!

Anytime I read organizational tips that are all, "Clear out those old magazines you never look at!" I think, "Are these people crazy?" I LOVE displaying back issues of magazines. The stacks make shelves look so linear and symmetrical, and they're perfect perches for little trinkets n such. I have years and years worth of food magazines, and I'll never throw them out. I also only ever buy the September issue of Vogue, and hope to collect them over the years.

Great post!

Like you, I throw away everything! Though I have been found guilty of moving my magazine collection overseas twice! AND from house to house at least 8 or 9 times...Guilty as charged!

Well, I tossed my magazines years back. Now that I think about it, I feel a little guilty. However, now I have a new reason to collect them. I collect magazines of the individuals I have interviewed in the industry. More meaningful and priceless to me :)

Love it! I'm the same. Can never toss magazines out! They are full of wisdom and people love browsing through them when visiting!

Shauna@Satori Design for Living said...

I keep at least two years worth and then I go through and tear out the pages I love and keep them in files. It's hard to part with magazines because they can be so beautiful, but a girl only has so much space!

I have a small collection! But I was smart and saved every issue of Domino which I still reference - can't believe that darn mag is still so relevant.

I also collect vintage mags! The graphics are amazing. Always inspirational.
