{fashion inspiration: black & tan}

Happy new week! Can you believe August is nearly coming to an end? I picked up a copy of the September issue of Vogue and had a chance to flip through it this weekend; it always inspires me to get excited about fall fashion. And with NYFW around the corner, I've got my eyes peeled to all the social media outlets just waiting to see what all the attendees are wearing!

In my own wardrobe, it seems I'm totally drawn to the combination of black & tan for the season:

Here are some recent additions to my closet, gives you an idea of my current obsession!
Are you loving this combo for fall? We talked about the sweatshirt comeback last week, what other trends have you been gravitating towards lately? I'd love to hear!

{fashion inspiration: the sweatshirt}

Sweatshirts have been on the scene for a while now, and I think it's a great trend to get behind for fall. I've already started my fall shopping, and I just so happened to pick up a grey sweatshirt last week! What I love about it is the updated twist, whether it be print, lace, or even jewels. And the casual/dressy mix is perfection; pair a sweatshirt with a statement necklace, jeans, and high heels!

Olivia Palermo
Same sweatshirt as above, but with a skirt!
Have you been loving this look? I'm going to layer my short-sleeved sweatshirt over a white collared shirt and a burgundy pencil skirt so that I can pull off a work appropriate look!
P.S.  J.Crew is having a sale! 25% off orders of $150+ with code FALLSTYLE at checkout, happy shopping :)
Have a wonderful weekend, and as always, thank you for stopping by!

{navy blue heaven & plum furniture}

Colleen McGill's projects and furnishings always have me swooning, so when I laid eyes on this heavenly navy living room below, I knew I had to share it with you {click to enlarge}:

Gosh, if I was ever in doubt, this room has me completely convinced I NEED navy walls in my life. The gold pairs very well with navy, wouldn't you say? And just look at those crown moldings! Très chic. To see more from Colleen and her lovely Plum Furniture line click here.

{our mini patio project}

Hi everyone! Hope your week is off to a great start :) I've finally got images to share with you on what we did to spruce up our patio this year. If you remember my post back in June, I put together a little mood-board on what I wanted the space to look like:

As you can see, I was dreaming of a blue & white space! BUT, the problem was, an old rotting deck was standing in the way of that dream:
Slightly embarrassing to show that to all of you, we knew when we bought the house 6 years ago that we planned to tear that thing down ... but as you know, life often gets in the way. So finally this summer we gathered up the troops for a tear down party! Meet the team:
And the tear down began!
This needed to be a tight budget project, so we removed the rotting wood, revealing the concrete pad below and decided to do some simple primping and accessorizing to make this an inviting space without breaking the bank :) And voila ...
I adore my chinoiserie stools and navy blue Sunbrella pillows from, it's those kind of details that really pulled things together on a project that was really all about the accessories. We particularly get compliment after compliment on the garden stools, they are so chic! A huge thank you to!!
One thing I absolutely love about this modular type of patio furniture is that you can constantly rearrange it, a design dream! A daybed configuration has proven perfect for lazy afternoon naps.
Throw blankets in my DIY dip-dyed basket, ready for those chilly nights.
Night time is quite inviting with the string lights aglow!
{isn't that little head peeking out the cutest?}

Navy blue Sunbrella pillows {c/o}
Blue & white patterned pillows {Ikea}
String lights {Restoration Hardware}

All in all we are very happy with what a little elbow grease and zhushing could do :) As always thank you for stopping by!

{food for thought ...}

Hi everyone! My apologies for being missing in action these days. We've got what feels like 101 things going on at once, and we're just trying to capture every single fleeting moment of summer in the process! Have you been getting out and enjoying the sun? Working on home projects by any chance? I'll have my patio project ready to post next week so be sure to pop by!

In the meantime, I came across these words from Mother Theresa the other day and felt like they were just too good not to share with you ....
She really hit the nail on the head. Hope you are having a wonderful August week, big hugs!
