Dissecting The Details | Andrew Howard

I recently happened-upon the portfolio of Florida-based designer Andrew Howard, and fell hard for his kitchen designs! Today, you can find my regular column 'Dissecting the Details' over at La Dolce Vita, where I am looking at 5 key elements that Andrew uses when designing these bright, airy, and functional spaces.

Style At Home & Ikea Unveil The New Sektion Kitchen

All of my favorite Toronto-based bloggers were instagramming up a storm at IDS 2015 last weekend, and one exhibit that really caught my eye was the fabulous collaboration between IKEA Canada and Style at Home magazine to help unveil IKEA's new SEKTION kitchen system (on sale February 2, 2015). I just adore the Parisian-bistro vibe in this space; the glass-front dark cabinets, the panelled walls, piles upon piles of baguettes! Here are a few more photos from IKEA's pinterest account, as well as some shots from two of my favorite bloggers, Wendy and Tim.

Lighted drawers, what a fantastic idea!

I want those brass brackets and shelves:

Pretty stunning stuff, hey? The brass hardware, the chandelier, the charming bicycle, I could go on. I love all of the ideas that they incorporated into this space and will definitely keep these images for future inspiration!

Wishlist | Black & White Ginger Jars

I think many of us are big fans of blue & white; it's a classic and stunning combination. I myself am trying to build a little collection of blue & white ginger jars for my dining table, I've got 5 so far and I'm loving the look. But I'm also on the lookout for black & white! Nothing is more classic than that, right? Black and white ginger jars, toile plates, cups & teapots are on my current wishlist:

Before & After | Bedroom Bliss

I adore finding fabulous examples of how millwork and architectural details can completely transform a room. Case in point: this stunning master bedroom makeover by Toronto-based McGill Design Group proves a dark & dreary traditional space can be brought  a new, bright, and airy feel. Notice how the bones were already there in the befores, however although the room was expansive it totally lacked character:

I love the effect of adding all the white panelling, as it draws your eyes upwards to the lovely shade of grey above the tray trim. That tray ceiling really made the room feel cold in the befores, however the visual result of adding panelling below completely changes the overall feel! Even the old mantle was swapped out for a better proportioned marble fireplace. The gorgeous chaise is from Colleen McGill's own furniture line, as is the tailored mahogany bed. The end result is elegant and intimate, don't you think?

Color Story | Tobi Fairley

Have you read the annual color issue of Rue Magazine yet? Click through if you haven't! A stand out feature for me was the modern glam penthouse designed by Tobi Fairley.  You'll find eye-catching hues, de Gournay wallcoverings, lacquered walls ... it's Hollywood regency at it's finest!

The kitchen was a definite show-stopper for me, I am very attracted to the putty color of the cabinets and all of the brass fixtures. And a ladder in the kitchen? Considering I measure up to a very short 5'1.5", this has long been a dream of mine to own!

House Tour | Enviable Designs

I'm pretty excited to dive in to this latest house tour, not only because the home is totally to my personal taste, but because it's in my home city of Vancouver! Designed by the talented Victoria McKenney of Enviable Designs, and photographed by the fabulous interior photographer Tracey Ayton, this home is quite the stunner:

What a soothing and inviting home. Everything is so crisp and bright. I adore all of the use of natural stone throughout the house, and the moulding and millwork as well. To see more of Victoria's fabulous designs click through to her website here, and instagram here.
